Fire Safety Signs

Introduction

Every building is constantly in danger from fire. There were 1800 fires in industrial buildings in the UK in 2008. In this article we will illustrate different fire safety signs.

To start a fire, there must be enough fuel, oxygen, and an ignition source.

Accidental fires are possible, but the threat of intentional fire should also be taken into account, and appropriate measures are taken to reduce this risk.

Fire risks are reduced by proper housekeeping, efficient maintenance (especially of electrical equipment), strict health and safety procedures, and efficient fire detection, warning, and firefighting systems reduce fire risks.

Fire Safety Signs

The Regulations apply to general fire precautions.

According to the guidance for the Fire Safety Order, signs must comply with BS5499-4 and 5 as well as the Safety Signs and Signals Regulations.

Since 1998, older, text-only ‘fire exit’ signs should have been supplemented or replaced with pictogram signs.

Safety signs that comply with BS5499-4 and 5 already have a pictogram and do not need to be changed.
