Chemical Warning Signs | Features & Pictograms

Introduction

Hazard pictograms warn us when a potentially harmful chemical is nearby. The pictograms inform us that the chemicals we use may be harmful to people or the environment. This article will illustrate different chemical warning signs.

The GB CLP hazard pictograms are diamond-shaped with a distinct red border and white background.

Hazardous chemical containers must be labeled according to the “globally harmonized system” (GHS). The diamond-shaped symbol will be accompanied by:

  • A signal word (DANGER, WARNING, or nothing),
  • There can be up to 6 hazard statements (H-statements, explaining the nature of the hazard).
  • Several cautionary statements provide guidance on transferring/dispensing the chemical.
